More than 400 years back Voronezh was built on high hills first as a fortress with 18 watching towers on its walls. The end of the 17 and the beginning of the 18 centuries is marked by ship-building industry development set up by Great Russian Tsar Peter the First.

The only witness of those times left is “The Stone Bridge” which is a romantic place and a symbol of a long and happy marriage. Traditionally in Voronezh  the groom has to carry his bride in his hands over 12 bridges on the day of their marriage. The grooms love “The Stone Bridge” the most as it’s the shortest.

The main city square

There are a lot of sights in Voronezh. They are historical and architectural monuments. Voronezh is a combination of typical features characteristic of any Russian town and its individual ones which make it different. The main city square is also a historic centre with a traditional monument to Lenin and the building of Voronezh Administration in its centre. Here you can also find one of the oldest city library named after a famous Voronezh poet Nikitin.
